HWCC's Statement on Hmong Deportation
Milwaukee, Wis., February 12, 2020 – The Hmong Wisconsin Chamber of Commerce (HWCC) is aware of growing concerns within the Hmong community and beyond regarding news of possible Hmong deportation to Laos by the United States government. The issue of deportation is complex and it is our hope that the U.S. government will consider the major sacrifices the Hmong made to support the U.S. government during a time in history when the United States needed strategic allies against the Lao communist.
Since this time, several generations of Hmong have made the United States their home – for many, it’s the only home they’ve ever known. HWCC was created in great part because it recognized that Hmong were becoming and have become an integral part of America’s economic fabric through entrepreneurship and business ownership. As an organization that exists to uplift the economic progress of underserved communities, HWCC will continue to closely monitor the progression of this current issue
